Horse Race

Horse Race is pure, unfiltered gambling chaos with a deck of cards. Cheer for your suit like it’s the Kentucky Derby, groan when your "horse" gets lapped, and absolutely lose it when the joker flips and resets the whole race. It’s the kind of game where loyalties shift faster than the cards—one minute you’re high-fiving over hearts, the next you’re side-eyeing the friend who just bet against you.

Horse Race rules

Game setup

Take the four Kings from the deck. These are your horses. Place them in a horizontal line at one end of the table (the starting line).

Creating the track

Shuffle the rest of the deck. Deal seven cards face down in a vertical column, starting from the Kings and forming an 'L' shape. These are the race stages.

Initial betting

Each player bets a number of sips (or something else if not drinking) on one of the four King 'horses'. Once you've bet, you can't change your mind!

Race progress

Flip over the remaining cards from the deck one by one. Each card's suit makes a specific King (horse) move forward one step along the face-down track (e.g., Hearts = King of Hearts moves, Diamonds = King of Diamonds moves, etc.).

The setback

After all horses have moved past a face-down card on the track, flip that face-down card over. If the flipped card's suit matches a suit of a King currently in the race, that King (horse) moves back one step.

End of race

The first King (horse) to reach and pass the final face-down card wins the race.
